Trip to Venkatappa Art Gallery

On 3 March 2026, the students of Grade 8 visited the Venkatappa Art Gallery near Cubbon Park, Bengaluru. The gallery, founded by Kaalatapasvi Krishnappa Venkatappa, widely regarded as Karnataka’s first modern artist, houses several of his works, many depicting the scenic beauty of Ooty. His personal belongings, including paintbrushes, sculpting tools and awards, were also on display.

Students observed archaeological sculptures along the gallery pathway and explored exhibits such as antique veenas, traditional art pigments, ivory carvings and relief works inspired by nature and the Hindu epics. The gallery also featured wood carvings by sculptor C. P. Rajaram and paintings by K. K. Hebbar, whose works depict traditional dance forms, mythology and rural life.
