Scholastic Writers Academy

Scholastic Writers Academy identifies and nurtures talented writers from across the country. A 10-day mentorship program, under the able guidance of Literary Experts, helps writers hone their skills, provides them with a reader’s perspective and molds them into becoming published authors. The following students are now published authors with Scholastic, under the Writers Academy Program.

  1. Anika U Bhat (2021-22), Grade 10. Her story was published in ‘A Library of Nineteen’, a splendid anthology of 19 stories.

‘Rainbow Between the Covers’, an anthology of 18 stories contains stories by the young authors in the year 2022-23.

Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar Memorial Award

The Annual Lt Col Ajit Bhandarkar (SC) Memorial Award is presented to a student of the outgoing batch who shows excellence in leadership quality, social responsibility, emotional maturity and academics. This year’s award ceremony was attended by students of Grades 6-9 for a special screening of ‘Saga of a Braveheart’ – an inspiring documentary on Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar (SC). The event was attended by representatives of the Vasantharatna Foundation and a few notable classmates of the martyr, who relived their school memories with him.

The recipient of the Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar (SC) Memorial Award is Akash GC, topper in the AISSE – Commerce Stream, Batch of 2022. Humble and charismatic, Akash GC is academically proficient, Captain of Orion House and an avid MUNner. He was elected Secretary General of R-NPSMUN 2021, an inter-school MUN held online and has put his leadership skills to use to help conduct other inter-school competitions as well.

As a charter member of the Rotaract Club of Bangalore, JP Nagar, Akash is involved in a range of activities like community service, zoo animal adoptions, donation drives etc. He has been intimately involved in the community service wing of the Rotaract Club focusing on the upliftment of construction workers in Bangalore. He has interned under Dr Rathan Kelkar, IAS, State Mission Director, National Health Mission, Government of Kerala. He worked on a case study titled “Ringfencing the elderly against Covid-19 – The Kerala way” that has been submitted to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration for consideration for publication. He has set his sights on clearing the UPSC exam in the future.
